It's been a sad couple of months here in the Who Dat Nation, first we lost the Deuce. It seems that he was too old and too crippled to wear a black and gold uniform anymore and today we get the news that one of our favorites, ol' Karney beast, who once blocked for the Deuce, will be joining him on the free agent market.
Yep, that's right, today our beloved New Orleans Saints saw fit to cut No. 44, Mike Karney and then they signed a fullback named Heath Evans. Evans played college ball at Auburn and once blocked for Shaun Alexander in Seattle after being drafted by the Seahawks.
In the spring of 2005, Evans was signed by the Miami Dolphins but then cut a few weeks into the season, he was then signed by the New England Patriots.
Now what's really bad about this whole thing is that Karney plans to get married tomorrow, he was getting ready for the rehearsal dinner when he got the news of his release. "The writing was on the wall for a long time," Karney said. "I didn't play much this year. They wanted to go in a different direction. There's nothing wrong with that. I can still play and play at a high level. I'm confident in that."
I just hope that Karney, along with Deuce, can find a new home where he can play as good as he did here and even better, Mr. Karney, we're gonna miss you on Sundays around here but we enjoyed it.
