Since his retirement from football in February 2011, Ronaldo has apparently been either really busy or really lazy.
Busy, that is, eating.
Ronaldo, the three-time FIFA World Player of the Year-winning forward who scored both goals in Brazil's 2-0 victory over Germany in the 2002 World Cup final (Pah! not that prettified Portuguese pretender), has only been away from football for 19 months.
From the looks of things, though, it might as well have been 19 years. Over those past 19 months, several pictures of Ronaldo's new physique—most of which show him eating and/or looking jolly—have popped up all over the Internet.
All that could change soon.
Ronaldo has begun an appearance on the Brazilian version of the television show Celebrity Fit Club. The first episode aired recently, and—surprise, surprise—Ronaldo was quite hefty.
Ronaldo, the formerly svelte athlete who looked like this in 2002, weighed in on the show's first episode at 118.4 kilograms. For Americans, that equates to 261 pounds, or, in other words, 864 McDonald's Quarter Pounders.
According to Yahoo! Eurosport's account, Ronaldo said he hopes his appearance on the show will give people hope. From the sound of it, his trainer wants to use him as a cautionary tale.
"All I can say is that I will work hard, be persistent and not give up until I reach my recommended weight," he said. "I want people to be inspired by me."
That, of course, could be done by showing people this picture. Alas, the weight-loss thing might work too.
