If the Penn State football team needs any extra motivation heading into their Big Ten opener Saturday at Illinois, the players already have it. Minutes after the Nittany Lions’ win against Temple, the focus shifted to conference play and an Illinois team and coaching staff that some Penn State players aren’t too fond of for various reasons. When the NCAA handed down sanctions in July, Illini head coach Tim Beckman had assistant coaches placed in the State College area in what many believed was an attempt to poach players. Beckman said later that week at July’s Big Ten Media Days that his assistants went to “two establishments outside campus and called some individuals if they wanted to come by.”
