Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers' first major test of his brief career at Anfield will come on Sunday when his team hosts arch rivals Manchester United in a fantastic Premier League matchup.

Liverpool desperately need a victory after starting the league campaign without a victory at 0-2-2 through the first four games.

Rodgers' squad defend well versus United because Liverpool will not take the three points from this match if it turns into a high-scoring game.

United have scored 10 goals in league play thus far, which ranks second in England, while Liverpool is ranked second to last in goals scored with just three.

However, Liverpool's chances of scoring could increase with the news that United captain and best defender Nemanja Vidic will not play (via Phil McNulty of BBC Sport).

This will make the center of the United defense a bit easier to break down, and give Liverpool forwards such as Luis Suarez more opportunities to score.

United's only loss of the season was away from Old Trafford versus Everton, and Anfield is always a difficult place for any club. The emotion of the game will be incredible, and so will the excitement.

Even though it's early in the season, it wouldn't be crazy to call this a must-win for the Merseyside club. Liverpool needs a win to build some optimism around the season, which has been disappointing so far.

Let's look at everything you need to know about this outstanding Premier League matchup, so you don't miss any of the thrilling moments from Anfield.
