Weekends like this are just perfect. For most of us, the weather is still nice, football is still fresh, we've got pennant races, actual car races and a UFC PPV to boot.

With apologies to all chores, errands, tasks or any other non-watching sports activity, this is not a good weekend to accomplish anything of the sort. The couch is calling.

So squeeze in a morning workout (we can't be totally lazy) and then flip on the TV. It's going to be an awesome 48 hours in sports.

NASCAR Sprint Cup: Sylvania 300

When: Sunday, 1 p.m. (ET)

TV: ESPN

Why You Should Watch: Even as a NASCAR fan, I can't fully advocate you skipping the NFL to watch this race. Will it be a good race? Probably. Is it exciting that a young, dynamic, Twitter-pioneering, drives-hard-and-doesn't-take-crap driver like Brad Keselowski is leading the charge right now? Yeah. Does any of that matter when going up against the NFL...?

Yeah. Problem for the average sports fan. So, flip over during commercials or DVR the thing, then watch the beginning and end (yours truly will be doing the latter).

A's vs. Yankees

When: All weekend

TV: Local affiliates, MLB.tv

Why You Should Watch: Though it's one of the lamest cliches in sports, I'm going to use it anyway...This is the epitome of David vs. Goliath, and the fact that both teams have nearly identical records despite the cavernous disparity in payroll is awesome.

I'm going to let my Bay Area bias flag fly, and say you should tune in and root for the A's. Or just root against the Yankees, which is also fun.

UFC 152: Jones vs. Belfort

When: Saturday, 10 p.m. (ET)

TV: Pay Per View

Why You Should Watch: If you're a big UFC fan, you're probably thirsting for a PPV considering what happened the last time they tried to hold one

And in that whole cancellation mess was the excoriation of Jon Jones, who was blasted by fans for not taking on a substitute opponent. Look for him to prove something this time around.

College Football Buffet

When: All weekend

TV: Pick a network, odds are they'll be showing a game

Best Games to Watch (all times ET)

  • Missouri at No. 7 South Carolina, CBS, 3:30 p.m.
  • No. 18 Michigan at No. 11 Notre Dame, NBC, 7:30 p.m.
  • No. 10 Clemson at No. 4 Florida State, ABC, 8:30 p.m.
  • No. 22 Arizona at No. 3 Oregon, ESPN, 10:30 p.m.

NFL Sunday

When: All day Sunday

TV: NBC, CBS, FOX

Why You Should Watch: It's the NFL. You're not going to not watch. The season is so young and fresh still that it's hard to imagine doing anything else. Enjoy watching your team.
