Top 6 EPL Goals of the Weekend

0 of 6

This weekend in the English Premier League, 28 goals were scored but the most talked about goals were the ones that were disallowed on Monday night at Goodison Park.

Two goals for Everton were wrongly disallowed on Monday as the referee called offside on a Marouane Fellaini would-be goal.

Later on in that same match, Victor Anichebe was robbed by the officials as they ruled no goal after the ball clearly crossed the line, re-igniting the debate on goal-line technology.

As for the goals that were scored this weekend, there were plenty of debuts, featuring the likes of Lukas Podolski, Christian Benteke, Nick Powell, Alexander Buttner and Javi Garcia.

Here they are: The goals from the old and new of the Premier League, the best of the best for week four of EPL play.

6. Paul Scholes

This goal can be categorized as historical.

Paul Scholes marked his 700th appearance for Manchester United with a goal in the 51st minute against Wigan.

Scholes was able to clean up the mess created by Wigan keeper Ali Al-Habsi after he saved a shot by Nani.

United would go on to win 4-0 in a game chock full of milestones including Rio Ferdinand's 400th United match, Sir Alex Ferguson's 500th home league match and Ryan Giggs' 600th EPL match

5. Jermain Defoe

Jermain Defoe capped off Tottenham's 3-1 win over Reading on Sunday with his second goal of the match in the 74th minute.

Defoe's individual effort down the pitch ended in him shooting from the left side of the penalty area past Reading keeper Alex McCarthy into the bottom right corner of the net.

The goal was the third of the season for Defoe as he looks to hold on to his starting spot ahead of Emmanuel Adebayor.

4. Gervinho

In Arsenal's 6-1 rout of Southampton at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, Gervinho netted two goals for the Gunners.

His first goal came in the 35th minute as he flew by two Southampton defenders and received a clever pass from Mikel Arteta.

The Ivorian was able to manage a difficult angle on the net and hit the ball right past Saints keeper Kelvin Davis and into the back of the net.

3. Matthew Lowton

Matthew Lowton was one of the many players to net his first goal with a new club this weekend.

Lowton's 16th minute goal opened the scoring in Aston Villa's 2-0 win over Swansea.

The ball bounced out to Lowton after a corner and he was able to strike it with his left foot, sending it screaming past Swansea keeper Michel Vorm.

2. Nick Powell

Continuing with the theme of debut goals, Nick Powell scored his first Manchester United goal on Saturday at Old Trafford.

After taking a pass from Chicharito, Powell took one touch and then powerfully struck the ball with his right foot past Wigan keeper Ali Al-Habsi.

The 82nd minute goal was the first for Powell since his move from Crewe Alexandra this summer.

1. Lukas Podolski

6 of 6

Lukas Podolski scored the goal of the week in Arsenal's big 6-1 win over Southampton on Saturday.

Podolski perfectly directed this free kick in the 31st minute to curl into the net past Saints keeper Kelvin Davis.

The goal was very impressive by the German international but more important for the Gunners, they are beginning to find goal scorers to replace the departed Robin van Persie.
