Real Madrid's disastrous start to their La Liga campaign has made defending their league title an incredibly difficult task.

A disappointing loss to Sevilla on Saturday resulted in Madrid taking just four out of a possible 12 points to start their pursuit of another league title.

To ensure their season takes a turn in the right direction, Los Blancos must defeat Manchester City in the two club's Champions League opener on Tuesday.

Luckily for Madrid, a convincing win against the defending Premier League champions could erase any doubts that they are not capable of becoming European champions this season.

Madrid are an experienced Champions League squad after two consecutive semifinal runs with most of the squad they currently have. This experience will be valuable against a City team that failed to meet expectations in last year's Champions League when they failed to reach the knockout stage.

All the pressure will be on City, due to last year's disappointing European campaign, and all the new signings they made in the summer.

The stage is set for a sensational performance from Madrid. They will be motivated to dominate in Europe after struggling domestically, and players such as Cristiano Ronaldo will relish the opportunity to shine against an English club.

Madrid manager Jose Mourinho will have his team ready for a talented Manchester City side, but the English club are opponents that Los Blancos should not lose to. Madrid have the edge in nearly every area of the pitch and can play any style of football. They can play physical, dominate possession or win a defensive battle.

To get back on track in La Liga, Madrid need a spectacular performance against City that results in a victory. This would elevate the club's confidence and help them rise up the table in Spain.
