Spring Training Grades: Derek Jeter Plays Against New York Yankees

Sean SerritellaCorrespondent IMarch 3, 2009

Derek Jeter beat the Yankees! The New York Yankees lost to the USA team by a score of 6-5. It was pretty weird to see Jeter get up against Jose Veras. Now to the grades.

A+ Brett Gardner

He went 3-for-3 with a run scored along with a stolen base. He really wants that center field position, doesn’t he?

A+ Cody Ransom

He got two hits, scored a run. and had an RBI. Niiice.

A Phil Coke

He gave up no runs on one hit along with two strike outs in 2.1 innings of work.

B Jorge Posada

Not a bad day: he went 2-for-3 with an RBI. He struck out and left two men on base, and that’s why he doesn’t get a higher grade.

C+ Melky Cabrera

I think it’s obvious he’s losing the starting center field position to Gardner. He got one hit and struck out once. I gave him the plus for the stolen base.

D Phil Hughes

The announcers thought he did a good job because he was locating his fast ball well. He still let in two earned runs on two hits in 2.2 innings of work.

F Erick Hacker

He didn’t even last the inning. He gave up three earned runs on two hits while walking two. Not good, Hacker.

Player Of The Game: Derek Jeter

Even though the Yankees lost, it was good to know that Derek Jeter had a good game for the United States. He went 2-for-4 with one run scored and two RBI.
