Excuses are nothing more than justification for failure. They help us reason why something didn't get achieved.

So saying Dolphins rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill had a poor performance in his season-opening start because the offensive line didn't protect well enough, or because he had a string of three tipped passes that turned into interceptions, or because the receivers aren't getting open, all fit neatly into the excuse pile.
