Indonesia and Russia To Leave the WRC 2010 Calendar

The Swedish rally Web site VF Sport is confirming the long-rumored story that Indonesia and Russia will not run their respective rounds of the World Rally Championship 2010 season.

No reason was given for the Indonesian event, but it is rumored that the Russian organizers want to remain with the rival Intercontinental Rally Championship (IRC) instead of going with the WRC.

Word is that they believe that the WRC’s rotating schedule, in which they will only be able to run every other year, is conducive to a successful event in spite of the WRC’s prestige.

In an interview with VF Sport, Lars Österlind, the Swedish delegate of the FIA World Council, confirms that two other rallies will take their places in the calendar.  One of the rumored replacements is the Rally Norway, which recently ran in the 2009 schedule.

If this comes to pass, it will mean that the FIA will be abandoning its WRC rotating rally schedule.
