WEC 39 Review

Last night was one of the more hit or miss cards the WEC has put on but there were some outstanding finishes. Overall I was a little disappointed but I suppose it could've been worse. Let's get into the results:

Marcos Galvao vs. Damacio Page: This fight was over almost as soon as it started. Page came out like a bull in a china shop and caught Galvao quickly ending the fight within seconds by KO. I was way off on this one.

Rob McCullough vs. Marcus Hicks: I'm really not sure what happened here. Both guys got into the cage and with the exception of parts of the second round it might've been one of the most boring, low level fights I've ever seen. It was like neither guy's lights were on.

Rounds one and three were so bad that the ref actually threatened to end the fight in the third and call a NC because neither fighter was engaging. Mercifully this travesty ended and McCullough was rightfully declared the winner. I picked this fight incorrectly (though technically my prediction was accurate).

Jose Aldo vs. Chris Mickle: Finally a fight that went exactly like I thought it would. Aldo came out and showed off his considerable striking skills. Mickle tried to hang in there and he's a tough kid but unfortunately Aldo is in an entirely different class.

Aldo came out and picked Mickle apart and eventually took him out with a TKO in the first round. I picked this fight right on the nose.

Bart Palaszewski vs. Ricardo Lamas: This was a solid scrap. Lamas came out and controlled the fight with his superior wrestling and strong ground and pound. Bart tried to get back to the feet as much as possible but he had no answer for Lamas on the ground.

This was a very one sided decision for Lamas. Lamas stepped in at the last minute to replace an injured Rich Crunkilton so my pick won't count here.

Mike Brown vs. Leonard Garcia: If anyone thought Brown's win over Faber was a fluke guess again people. This dude is for real!

Brown came out and quickly caught Garcia sending him to the mat. Brown continued to keep the pressure on with ground and pound and submission attempts until he caught Garcia with a beautiful arm triangle to finish the fight in the first round. Major props to Brown for using my favorite submission for the win!

Everyone who told me this fight wasn't going to last long kudos to you. However, I still picked the winner even if I was way off on the prediction. I feel bad for Garcia to lose like this but I can't wait to see the rematch between Faber and Brown!

I went a decent 2-2 with one bonus point for getting the pick and prediction. Alright folks that's all for now. Stay tuned for my UFC 96 and DREAM 7 wrap ups this weekend. Until then,
