English midfielder Joey Barton has joined Marseille from Queens Park Rangers, according to BBC Sport's Ben Smith.

Moving in the other direction is midfielder Stephane M'Bia. M'Bia, a Cameroonian international, is Queens Park Rangers' 12th signing of the summer.

At one point, the deals were reportedly connected. But now it seems they were separate all along, though they were completed around the same time.

Barton, 29, had been serving a substantial ban at the start of the English Premier League season. He joined QPR from Newcastle last summer and spent one controversy-filled year in London.
