BATON ROUGE — He watches alligator hunts on the “Swamp People” television show. He has hunted the bayous. He has a rifle in more ways than one. His name does not end in “eaux,” and he is from swamp-less Watkinsville, Ga., but he may be as welcome in Louisiana this fall as a Gulf of Mexico void of any hurricanes. He is junior Zach Mettenberger, possibly the next great quarterback at LSU and likely the first decent one since Matt Flynn in 2007. “I don’t hunt gators,” Mettenberger said. “I’m more of a duck guy. But duck hunting season’s over. Chase Clement is supposed to take me down to Thibodaux for that.”
