Arizona State: Will James Harden and The Sun Devils Be Dancing Come Selection Sunday?

Ian ZymarakisSenior Analyst IMarch 15, 2008

One thing facing the Arizona State Men's Basketball team, is whether or not after selection Sunday comes and goes will they be dancing?

By the way analysts are talking about the Sun Devils it appears that they will be. Is it possible that a debateable call that possibly changed the outcome of a conference tournament game in which got ASU a loss might be the key to their entrance into the NCAA Tournament?

I believe so, with an RPI in the 80's and a SOS around the same one would think this team sitting at 19-12 is heading to the NIT.

But being in the Number 2 ranked conference in the country and finishing at 9-9 in conference play might be enough to get into the NCAA Tournament. With wins over Xavier, Stanford, U of A (x2), Oregon and USC that itself speaks volumes about a team that started 3 Freshman a Sophomore and Junior to begin the season.

From a team that only won 2 conference games all of last season to finishing 5th in the regular season conference standings in arguable the best conference in college basketball, I think we are looking at a team that will make the tournament for the first time since Ike Diogu led the Devils to the 2nd round of the 2002-2003 NCAA tournament.

If the committee does not overlook ASU this could be a very scary 11 or 12 seed with possible Sweet 16 chances.

The question is, will selection Sunday hold the key to the NCAA Tournament or will it be Invitational Monday that holds a ticket to the NIT? We will see come 6 pm eastern Sunday.
