Matt Cassel Headed to Kansas City

The Boston Globe confirmed that Matt Cassel is expected to join the Kansas City Chiefs in a trade that also involves New England's Mike Vrabel.

There is now speculation that there is a third team involved in this deal. It should not affect where Cassel will be playing next year but could be a factor in what New England will receive in the deal.

Larry Johnson and Tony Gonzalez have both publicly said they wouldn't mind playing for a new team next year. I would have loved to see Johnson in a Pats uniform next year, but with the recent signing of Fred Taylor I don't see that happening. The Patriots also just signed Chris Baker, so I don't see Gonzo coming over either.

This is great news for Patriot fans. It not only means that we will be getting more picks to build for the future, but it also tells us that coach Bill Belichick fully expects Tom Brady to be ready for the start of next season.

I expect the Patriots to sign a veteran quarterback, such as Jon Kitna, as a backup.
