A hugely entertaining game at Old Trafford comes to a close, with Fulham being denied late on by a succession of saves from David de Gea to make sure all three points stay with Manchester United.
An early Duff goal was cancelled out by van Persie's first ever United goal, before Kagawa got his as well to put the home side ahead. A Rafael header made it three before half time, with just a strange own goal from Vidic finding the net in the second half.
Good work from Fulham but ultimately too much fear in the first half cost them, while United will just be happy to have the points after a first-day defeat.
Full time at Old Trafford
Manchester United 3 Fulham 2
90+6'—Fulham it forward and Dembele escapes down the right and delivers a great cross—but the header from Ruiz provokes a fine point-blank save from de Gea.
That should be their final chance.
90+5'—Wayne Rooney is only now leaving the pitch, on a stretcher with his leg heavily bandaged. We continue play now, with likely two minutes more before full time.
James Morrison has scored a late equaliser for West Brom against Spurs, 1-1 now. Aston Villa have lost 3-1 at home to Everton, and Southampton have also lost at home, 2-0 to Wigan.
Norwich and QPR have drawn 1-1, after both lost 5-0 on the opening day.
90+3'—Rodallega hits the wall with his free kick and with the follow up, before play is stopped so Rooney can get some treatment. Looks pretty bad too—a very large gash on his upper leg which is bleeding quite profusely, after Rodallega came down on top of him accidentally.
90+1'—Briggs comes forward and outside the box is chopped down by Danny Welbeck. Dangerous-looking free kick, left of centre and 25 yards out.

90'—Wayne Rooney, for the first time since coming on as substitute, gets involved in the game by cutting inside and curling a shot from outside the area, well over the crossbar.
Four minutes to be added on at Old Trafford
Late goal in the league: Arouna Kone breaks free to smash a second in for Wigan, 2-0 at Southampton.

86'—Fantastic skill and change of pace from Cleverley as he bursts away from his marker, drives towards goal in the centre of the area and shoots left-footed—but his effort flies just wide. Great game today from the young central midfielder.
84'—Back come United, but a succession of crosses from the right are cut out. Fulham defending them well, but they'll need to get the ball back up the other end of the pitch quickly to get anything out of this game. Hangeland does the complete opposite by mis-controlling the ball on his own goal line, conceding an avoidable corner for United.
82'—Fulham go close! Ruiz takes too long to get his shot away, but finally manages a chipped through-pass for Rodallega to run onto. He opens his body up to shoot right footed, but his effort is blocked on the six yard box by Vidic.
United sub: Ryan Giggs on for Anderson.
Fulham sub: Chris Baird on for Diarra.
80'—Fulham trying to press the issue, but it won't happen like that. Hangeland threads a ball through along the ground, but 20 yards away from any player in white. Easy for de Gea.
77'—Rooney hits a free kick into the wall—and from the rebound, Rafael piledrives a shot at Schwarzer who has to smartly tip over the bar. Good hit, good save.
Karim El Ahmadi has scored his first for Aston Villa, who now trail 3-1 against Everton. Benoit Assou-Ekotto has scored a rare goal to break the deadlock for Spurs, winning 1-0 against West Brom.
76'—Less than a quarter of an hour left in the game now, with both teams looking a little nervy in possession. United still look the more threatening but expect Fulham to push forward more in the final 10 minutes if things stay this way.
74'—United looking to make things happen again now to avoid any chance of Fulham pulling the game back onto level terms. Tom Cleverley has been outstanding today, at the heart of much of United's early build-up play.
Gary Lineker is impressed with the match:
Great game at Old Trafford, with Fulham more than playing their part

Fulham sub: Petric goes off to be replaced by Hugo Rodallega.
Just in case you need a better description of that Vidic own goal:
MAN UTD 3-2 FULHAM: GOAL! Vidic stumbles forward as he tried to meet a near post cross and back-heels into his own net. #Bizarre

69'—Fulham sniff a way back into the game here. Dembele drives forward, utterly without pressure on him, and belts the ball at goal from 25 yards which de Gea has to tip over the bar. From the resulting corner Dembele is again denied, shooting from close range and forcing a fine reaction stop from de Gea.

Double United change: Ashley Young and Shinji Kagawa off, Danny Welbeck and Wayne Rooney on. Let's see where everybody goes in that little re-shuffle; presumably Welbeck will play out wide and Rooney behind van Persie.
