Calm Down Boston: Celtics Are Overrated

Now don't start cussing me out right away, Bostonites.

The Celtics are a great team, but let's face it, my baby niece could compete in the Eastern Conference. If you stuck the Boston Celtics into the Western Conference, then they MIGHT get the 4th or 5th seed.

Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, and Ray Allen are no doubt the best Big-3 in the league. However, the rest of the team is a bunch of guys named Joe. Anyone that doesn't live in Boston couldn't name two players on the Boston Celtics other than their Big-3.

Signing Sam Cassell was a great move, but it only put ANOTHER FOSSIL on the team.

If you were to put the Lakers, or another Western Conference contender into the East, they would probably be the #1 seed.

So, once again, I apologize to all Bostoners, but the Boston Celtics are not as good as you think.

In a few years, the Celtics will be bottom-feeding again.

Not the Celtics fault that the East isn't up to par. That's just the hand they've been dealt.

I'm pretty sure any NBA or sports fan could name plenty of Celtics starters and bench players. You're obviously not a Boston fan and you knew who Cassell was, even though he hasn't mattered since his days with the T-wolves. Besides, Sam isn't there to single-handedly take over games (although he's capable of heating up at any moment), he's there to provide experience and leadership (he was successful with KG before). If you want to prove they're overrated then provide some, well, proof. #s, stats, schedule, etc.

    Dude,

Bostonians don't care if their team is good or bad - they root for them anyway.
So, now they're a little good - what's the problem?

No one in Boston is expecting or claiming a championship. Just nice to have a competitive team again.

I think YOU need to CALM DOWN.

You're WAY too excited about this topic. Even more so than any Bostonians.

Dude I've been cheering for the Celtics for 10 years and finally have something to be excited about. I agree once all those guys go they'll be bottom feeders again, but I'm cheering them all the way to the Finals. GO CELTS!

    Think you're so smart?

Name me "big" names from other teams? Besides a couple of starters, you can't, can you?

That's because all teams are built like that. Every team has several "Joe's".

I really think you are a misinformed or uninformed fan posing as an authority.

    You must be embarrassed.

    Think before you publish.

Now you're speaking like a true 'homer.'
This article is a joke. The C's have PWNED the West this season...including your beloved LA Lakers. 2-0, right? Winning by over 30-combined points, more-or-less?

You're only argument here is that the East is brutal. Yes. That's a good base for an article.
But to make that you're sole argument, that the C's are the best team in the entire NBA, because of a crummy conference/division, is just weak.
I can't believe I'm wasting my time right now, actually.

True fans, like those who wrote above, understand what it means to be a Celtics FAN. The Celtics are much more than 3 key players; they have a great bench that consistently outperforms other benches. There have been numerous games in which the top dogs were taken out early and Doc allowed his second string to win the game. Then there was the nine games Garnett was out, and still the Celtics excelled. Bottom line: This year's Celtics are a combination of great players, teamwork and drive. If you were a Celtics FAN, you'd understand.

Well done on writing a "troll" discussion post. Sadly, I thought this site was for articles. Maybe you should used evidence to substantiate your opinion next time, unless your only goal is to get hits.

P.S. regardless of whether or not you are the your profile claims, you need to back up your opinions with facts if you want anything you say to be taken seriously.

P.P.S. I believe people in Boston are called "Bostonians."

I agree Brandon. The Celts are a good team, but they aren't as good as they are made out to be. You could take any one of the West's top 7 teams, place them in the East and they would be doing pretty close to what the Celts are doing. I mean the 4th place team in the east is only a couple of games above .500, that's awful. How about that for statistics JOHN. Oh and MARK, you have no life, if you are going to say you are waisting your time on commenting this then why did you do it? That seems pretty dumb if you ask me. Oh and i realize that the Celts at one point were 20 and 0 against the West, but since that point they are about 0 and 4, and Utah handed them their worst loss of the season just two nights ago. Let me tell you, if you have to play multiple games against the West, lets say 4 like every team in the West has to, then you aren't going to win many in a row because teams start to find your weaknesses and how to beat you. When you only play a team twice a year, then you don't have to plan for them as much, because a loss to them won't hurt you as much.
There, that is how it is done.
Brandon, keep doin what you're doin bro.

Brandon, who needs to calm down? It would certainly behoove you to conduct research before publishing. We here in Boston have no idea what you're talking about.

You're certainly entitled to your opinions - however wrong they may be. But, I suggest you take a visit to Boston before assuming anyone here needs to 'calm' down.

I think we're a lot 'calmer' than you apparently are about this topic. Could you be bitter, maybe?

And yes, Tom; it's clear Brandon and Kevin are from 'other' parts of the country - you know, the unfortunately uneducated parts. Just check out their grammar - oh my!

Sending our best from college town USA (Boston).

Yes, we all agree that Kevin is GAY, or at least he sure looks it.

But more pertinent to the discussion here:

Did anyone claim that the Celtics were going to win a championship?

I'm not a Boston fan, but I've blogged with Celt's fans and they're just happy to have a team playing well. I'm sorry. I don't think I understand this article's point?????

Anyway, I'd love for anyone to name bench players (Joes) for me from other teams.
I mean, WHAT??? Who is this Brandon guy? Isn't that the case with most, maybe all teams?

Brandon, who's your team? You must be fortunate enough to have All-Stars for starters AND All-Stars on your bench.
Well, whoever your team is, they must be favored to win it all with all that talent!!!!

    Kevin,

    What's your logic?

Celts lost to an above .500 team (Jazz). And that proves what?

Maybe it proves that the Spurs are overrated. They lost to the 76-ers (yikes).

Oh, and the Pistons too, they lost to the Knicks?? Ouch, that's gotta hurt!

Musn't forget about the aforementioned Jazz who just lost to the ...Nets?

    Be smart!

I couldn't disagree with you more Brandon, but I enjoy the debate that you've stirred up on Bleacher Report with the post. If you get the chance, I'd love to see some more elaboration on your general idea here. I do have to agree that the Boston Celtics are overrated right now, they've won nothing meaningful (i.e. best in conference, a playoff series, the Eastern Conference title, or the NBA championship) but I'll bet that changes in the playoffs. I look forward to seeing more of your coverage as the season begins to heat up and the real season begins. As a lifelong Celtics fan, it's just great to be the focus of opinions such as yours because, at the least, it proves they they are relevant once again.

I agree with you Andrew. I disagree with you Brandon.

We'll have to wait and see.

Even if they don't win it all, most teams don't and they're still considered contenders.

    Can't all be the Spurs!

Ummm... this article sounds like it was written on a napkin during your lunch break at junior high. The Celtics are 22-4 against the West, they are for real and just as good as any Western conference contender.
