Ever wonder how those UFC rankings determine title shots? Well wonder no more!
Champ - Guy with the belt
1) Biggest marketable fighter for a title shot.
2) Guy who probably deserves the title shot.
3) Guy getting the next title shot.
4) Fighter who is really No. 7 or No. 8, but most likely getting a title shot soon.
5) Big name fighter with or without recent wins. Doesn't deserve a title shot, but can still headline a PPV.
6) Gatekeeper who could actually pull off a title shot with one or two more wins.
7) Big-name fighter with or without recent wins. Can still headline a PPV, but even casual fans wouldn't accept a title shot.
8) Gatekeeper who is two losses away from being cut.
9) Upcoming fighter with the most recent win.
10) Big name fighter who doesn't really deserve to be in the top 10, but they'already got two or three fighters that the casual fans haven't heard of.
I'm pretty sure this can be applied to every weight class with a tolerance of maybe + or -1.
Also... that pic has nothing to do with the article...but woudn't it have been awesome if Fedor and Tito had went at it when the bell rang. Fedor over the economic recession by second round TKO.
