For a moment, San Francisco Giants pitcher Jonathan Sanchez provided hope during the dreary 2008 season.
Although he ended the season 9-12, Sanchez' performance in June invoked optimism into AT&T Park. In that month, the 26-year-old went 5-1 with a 3.10 ERA.
This Spring, he will be a part of Puerto Rico’s team in the World Baseball Classic. Aiming to be the No. 3 starter on the team, Sanchez began preparing early. Although he faces a daunting Dominican Republic team in his first actual game, the task doesn’t intimidate him.
"Every game's big," said Sanchez. Playing for one’s country always brings out the patriotism in every player and the lefty is no different.
