Daniel Briere Returns to Philadelphia Flyers—Two Players Waived

Chris DiFrancescoAnalyst IFebruary 26, 2009

The Philadelphia Flyers placed center Glen Metropolit and defenseman Ossi Vaananen on waivers to make room for returning star Daniel Briere.

GM Paul Holmgren said he hoped both players clear waivers, so the team could have roster options.

Also, coach John Stevens talked about Briere and how he looks.

"He has been pushing pretty hard," said Stevens. "He did some off-ice rehab today. We are going to wait and see until tomorrow, and see how he makes out at practice."

“I think we will know in the morning with what is going on. As far as today, we are going to wait and see how he feels tomorrow. I don’t think we will wait until game time. We will decide in the morning whether he is going to play or not.”

Lastly, Stevens will make a decision on whether or not Kimmo Timonen will play against the Montreal Canadiens. Timonen had missed the last two games with the flu.
