TMZ reports the affable big man beat out a myriad of hopefuls to score the hosting dream job on daytime TV.
Michael Strahan was picked to partner with Kelly Ripa on her morning syndicated show ... this according to staffers at ABC in New York City.
Several staffers told TMZ ... the talk in the building is that Strahan -- who played in the NFL and won a Super Bowl ring -- will be announced as the co-host.
Strahan's rep was seen outside the building on 67th and Columbus a short time ago grinning from ear to ear.
Broadcasting & Cable also confirms the report, issuing, "ABC is expected to announce in early September that Michael Strahan will take over as the cohost of Live! alongside Kelly Ripa," citing multiple sources.
Sports fans know Strahan as a Pro Bowl defensive end who dominated on the field and then went into retirement to dominate the mainstream media.
He now has that shot.
After featuring on Fox NFL Sunday and Pros vs. Joes, Strahan will reach millions every morning on a set made famous by Regis Philbin and Kathie Lee Gifford.
The new permanent face of morning TV will be the famous grin of the gentle giant, Michael Strahan.
Back in July, NBC Sports reported the race was a three-man battle among Strahan, Josh Groban and SNL's Seth Meyers.
As for the choice, we couldn't be happier.
Strahan is one of the few athletes who mixes wit, exuberance and screen presence perfectly, engaging the audience in ways that will make him shine in this format.
In his brief tryout, he managed to deliver a memorable moment wherein he stripped down in honor of the popular release of the movie Magic Mike.
It's not often you see a person succeed in two difficult professions in one lifetime. Strahan is that rarity who can pull it off.
Congrats, big man.
