WWE will often try a storyline that has potential only to fizzle out because of poor execution or a payoff that doesn't match the build. Triple H's broken arm is the latest example of a storyline that has a lot of possible outcomes.
Even as we await the answers to the questions, we can examine what we know right now, and as it stands, it could be one of the best things Triple H has ever done.
Let's start with a look back at how we got here. It started three months ago, the first time Brock Lesnar broke Triple H's arm. That was used as a way to showcase just how much of a monster Lesnar could be.
At the time, there was potential for that angle. The only problem was, Triple H decided that he didn't want to sell the injury. Forget that he was perfectly fine walking with Floyd Mayweather during his fight in May, but even on WWE television, he had no desire to sell the angle anymore.
This latest broken arm is a redux. It gives WWE and Triple H an opportunity to tell the story that should have been told in the first place. Specifically, Triple H has been broken, physically and mentally.
It is a story as old as time, but WWE rarely goes to this well. You could see exactly where WWE was going as soon as the match was over and Triple H was soaking in what little adulation the crowd in Los Angeles was giving out.
By giving him the out of a broken arm, Triple H can stay away from WWE for a few months. Then, when the right situation arises, he can make his return to television to explain to the world where he has been and what he is doing.
Triple H can talk about all the things he has done, how he shaped the WWE product and why he has to step back to evaluate what is important to him. Everyone knows that he is being groomed to take over the company when Vince McMahon goes away, so it is a logical storyline to play with.
Wherever things go after that is up to WWE, but for now at least, Triple H is in an angle that has all the potential in the world. Given his knowledge of the business, you have to believe it will be executed well.
Even if it does fizzle out in the end, the possibilities are endless right now. That is the best kind of angle.
