Top 5 EPL Goals of the Week

0 of 5

After one week of play in the English Premier League, there were two unexpected goal outbursts and a few surprising results.

Swansea and Fulham both unleashed five goals on their opponents while the Manchester City vs. Southampton match also featured five goals with City winning 3-2 in that one.

Out of the 27 goals scored in the 10 matches this weekend, five of them were penalties, which is an usually high amount for any week.

Although none of the goals this week were worthy of going down in EPL history like Papiss Cisse did last season, there are nonetheless impressive.

5. Demba Ba

Demba Ba opened the scoring account for himself and Newcastle United on Saturday against Tottenham.

After a poor clearance by Spurs defender Kyle Walker, Ba hustled back to the ball and drilled into the back of the net.

The Magpies ended up winning the match, 2-1, after Hatem Ben Arfa scored the winner on an 80th minute penalty.

4. Marouane Fellaini

Marouane Fellaini may have turned in the best overall performance from any player all weekend.

Fellaini was all over the pitch in Everton's 1-0 win over Manchester United.

It was only appropriate that the Belgian scored the only goal of the match with his head in the 57th minute.

3. Samir Nasri

Manchester City almost suffered the same fate as their rivals, but they fought back with a 3-2 win over Southampton.

Samir Nasri capped off the City comeback in the 80th minute with his first goal of the season.

Nasri, just like Ba, was a beneficiary of a poor clearance by a defender—in this case it was Danny Fox.

2. Michu

If you guessed that Swansea would be on top of the table and Michu would tied for the scoring lead in the EPL after week one, then you need to catch the next flight to Las Vegas.

The new signing, who scored 17 total goals for Rayo Vallecano in La Liga last season, proved his worth early and often.

The Spaniard scored the first goal of the EPL season in the seventh minute, but it was his second goal in the 53rd minute that earned a spot on this list.

Fast forward to 0:19 in the video to see the left footer that Michu put past QPR keeper Rob Green.

1. Zoltan Gera

Zoltan Gera's goal against Liverpool on Saturday is the clear-cut favorite for goal of the week.

Gera's strike was the first goal in West Brom's 3-0 shock win over Liverpool.

The Hungarian's 43rd minute was started by the midfielder controlling the ball with his chest and nailing a shot with his right foot in the back of the net.
