Wigan and Chelsea kick off their 2012/13 Premier League campaigns when they meet this Sunday, the 19th of August, at 01.30 pm GMT.

The last time these teams met in the Premier League, it was a 2-1 win for Chelsea with Juan Mata grabbing a late winner.. Last season, these teams were in two distinctly different battles on separate ends of the table.

Wigan was in a relegation fight, and thanks to a record of seven wins, one draw and two losses, they finished five points above the relegation zone.

Further up the table, Chelsea was in a battle for fourth place, while also being occupied by runs in the FA Cup and Champions League, both of which they eventually won.

Chelsea ended up sixth in the Premier League, but they are back in the Champions League thanks to their win over Bayern Munich in the final of the European tournament.

There will be plenty to look forward to when these two teams play, with players on both sides set for their Premier League debuts with their new clubs.

Wigan Team News

On the transfer front, Wigan lost some players in the early part of the summer, and it didn't look as if they would find solid solutions to replace them.

They have done exactly that though, with the acquisition of talented youngster Fraser Fyvie and a loan move for Arsenal's Ryo Miyaichi, as well the capture of experienced La Liga players Arouna Kone and Ivan Ramis.

Preseason preparations have been interesting for the club though, as the team has a record of two wins, two draws and two losses.

Chelsea Team News

Chelsea made some major moves this summer, with their acquisitions of Marko Marin, Eden Hazard and Oscar. Much will be expected of the trio and they could be joined by one or two more faces.

These players will be called upon to help out Juan Mata and hopefully help Fernando Torres regain his form, something which will be an absolute necessity with the departure of Didier Drogba.

Preseason raised more questions for Chelsea than answers, as the club only managed one win—against the Seattle Sounders—one draw and three losses. Four, if you include the Community Shield loss to Manchester City.
