Just because the 2012-13 English Premier League season is less than a week away, it doesn't mean that the transfer news and rumors will stop.
In fact, in many circumstances, the updates and news from the summer transfer window could increase as a club like Arsenal—who don't like dealing after the season has commenced—try to wheel and deal their way through the last few days they have.
Will Robin van Persie move to Manchester United or stay at the club? Is Alex Song set for Camp Nou this year? Can we expect another signing from Arsene Wenger in the transfer window this summer?
You'll find the answers to those questions and more as we take a look at the latest Arsenal transfer rumors and updates. Read on to find out who could be coming to the Emirates this summer.
Starting off with the big one—Robin van Persie—who could still be making a move away from the London club before the new Premier League season begins.
Reports are that Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has contacted Arsene Wenger about a deal for the 29-year-old, whilst The Sun takes it a step further to say that a £22 million deal is set to be agreed upon between the two (or three) parties.
Both are rumors, and no official confirmation has been given from either side as of yet.
After starring for South Korea in their Olympic bronze-medal victory, Ki was asked about a possible move to Arsenal and replied:
"I'm not sure... I haven't heard anything about that..."
If he doesn't know, it's a fairly good sign that this deal won't be happening.
One bit of news bound to excite Arsenal fans is the revelation from Olympiakos striker Kevin Mirallas that the Gunners are currently battling his current club over a transfer fee in order to bring the player to the Emirates this season.
Mirallas has scored 34 goals in 52 appearances for Olympiakos, and told Het Nieuwsblad (h/t Goal.com):
There is still a chance I will move to the Premier League. My agent is having talks with Arsenal, those rumours are true. Only Olympiakos is in the way. They want €8 million [£6 million] and not a penny less.
Barcelona transfer target Alex Song has denied rumors he will be making a move to Camp Nou this summer, stating via Sky Sports (h/t Goal.com) that whilst there is interest from the Spanish giants, he will remain an Arsenal player for the upcoming season.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has also confirmed via The Sun (h/t Goal.com) that there is "nothing going on with Song [to Barcelona]...there's nothing in that."
The 19-year-old moves in search of first-team action and is likely to find plenty at the Lactics, who will benefit greatly from the Japanese international's services this year—particularly if winger Victor Moses does end up making a move to Chelsea this summer.
Nicklas Bendtner has confirmed that he will be leaving Arsenal over the summer transfer window this year, stating that to stay at Arsenal is not an option, and he will no longer play for the Gunners (per Sporten.dk via Goal.com).
The 24-year-old is desperate for first-team football, and with the recent transfer signings of the Gunners, he is unlikely to find any this season should he remain at the club.
Bendtner claims to have received offers from abroad, but they have reportedly been rejected by the Danish international because they didn't meet his standards and requirements (per Goal).
In an interesting development, French club Rennes have confirmed that they have received a bid for Yann M'Vila from an English Premier League club—though they do not specify which club the bid came from.
M'Vila is believed to be an Arsenal and Tottenham transfer target, with both clubs heavily interested in the 22-year-old defensive midfielder for the upcoming season.
Wrapping up our Arsenal transfer news for this week is Theo Walcott, who is rumored to be the subject of significant interest from a myriad of clubs over the summer transfer window.
The Daily Star reports that Inter Milan, Liverpool and Chelsea are all interested in signing the 23-year-old, who could be set for a London departure following the signings of Lukas Podolski and Santi Cazorla coupled with the strong development of teenage sensation Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
