Does anyone remember Lorenzo Styles?
I know now. I was looking through my football cards and then I found Lorenzo Stlyes, on the Buckeyes. I thought he looked like a pretty good player, so I Googled him up and I saw some pretty nice stuff of him.
Even though they weren't many sources, I found as much research as I possibly can. Probably, none of you guys have heard of the man, but he was truly amazing. He was Buckeye, for Christ's sake! You cannot deny the heart of Ohio State. Never!
Styles had a great career as a Buckeye. In 37 career games in college, he had 282 tackles, 182 solo tackles, and one sack. He was pretty great in size and speed. He was pretty fast, running I think about 4.70 or something in that nature. He also was a big man. At 6'2" and 244 pounds, he looked unstoppable.
He was selected as a two-time All-Big Ten linebacker. Born in Columbus, Ohio, it's no wonder he went to Ohio State. He was also a Butkus Award finalist and was voted second place for Linebacker of the Year.
Styles led Ohio State in tackles in his junior year and sophomore year. He also was Defensive Player of the Year with Dan "Big Daddy" Wilkerson. Great player, wasn't he? He was also the Defensive Player of the Game against Michigan.
After a successful career in college, Styles declared for the NFL Draft. He was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons as 17th pick in the third round in the 1995 NFL Draft. After being released by the Falcons in 1996, the Rams signed Styles immediately.
In 1997, Styles had a good year and was developing himself as one of the top special team players. In 1998, he established himself as one of the best special team players.
Then, in 1999, Styles had his year. He had a great year and his team, known as "The Greatest Show on Turf," was heading to the Super Bowl against the rotten Titans. Styles was known as "The Special Teams Terror."
The Rams won and Styles earned a Super Bowl ring. In 2000, he was named the special teams defensive captain. He also had an important sack that year against his former team, the Falcons. Styles retired after that and was known as a special teams phenom.
Styles now has a website that opened in 2007. He dedicated it to his brother, who died of sickle cell anemia disease. Styles is now living clean and living well.
Now do you remember Lorenzo Styles?
Still a Super Bowl Champion, still a "Special Teams Terror."
