A month after taking part in the destruction of the UFC 151 fight card, Jon Jones will now defend his title against Vitor Belfort instead of Dan Henderson. Against Belfort, the 25-year-old Jones will attempt to tie himself with Chuck Liddell and Frank Shamrock for the second-most consecutive light heavyweight title defenses in UFC history.
Beating Belfort at UFC 152 would give Jones four straight title defenses against former UFC champions, as his Brazilian opponent won the light heavyweight title by beating Randy Couture via cut in the opening minute of a January 2004 bout. Undoubtedly, Belfort—despite competing at middleweight for his past three appearances—will be looking to earn the belt more decisively against Jones.
In addition to the 205-pound championship bout, Saturday's event will also feature the UFC's first-ever flyweight title fight. After beating Yasuhiro Urushitani and Ian McCall in their respective semifinal bouts of a four-man tournament to determine the 125-pound division's first titleholder, former bantamweight contenders Joseph Benavidez and Demetrious Johnson will try to capture the gold that eluded them at 135 pounds.
To promote UFC 152, which will be held at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Canada, a pre-fight press conference will be held on Thursday at 3 p.m. ET. Event headliners Jones, Belfort, Benavidez and Johnson will likely join UFC president Dana White for the presser.
Video of the press conference will be streamed live on the above video player. After the presser, stay tuned to Bleacher Report MMA for all the latest on UFC 152 and the rest of your MMA needs.
