Rory McIlroy ran away with the 2012 PGA Championship, and along with it, a major payday.

He entered the tournament's final day—which was prolonged due to a weather delay the day before—tied for the lead with Vijay Singh, but stormed out to an immediate lead and left his competitors in the dust.

By the time he began his back nine, everyone else in the field was an afterthought.

The PGA Championship has one of the highest purses in golf, tossing a total purse of $8 million to its competitors.

McIlroy, 23, won his second career major in a comparable way to his first. The 2011 U.S. Open champion won last June's event by eight strokes with a stellar 16-under score that broke 11 U.S. Open records.

He won by eight strokes yet again Sunday, breaking the PGA Championship record.

According to Golfweek, McIlroy got a hefty sum of dough from his performance at Kiawah Island. He'll take home $1,445,000 for his play. After only 24 putts on 18 greens, he certainly deserved it.

David Lynn came out of nowhere to grab second place with a score of 68 on each of the final two rounds, and he won $865,000 doing so.

Now, let's take a look at the final leaderboard for the 2012 PGA Championship, one that was highly competitive until one of golf's biggest stars ran away with the year's final major.
