Tiger Woods at PGA Championship 2012 Tracker: Day 4 Highlights, Updates and More
Tiger is back in action in the final round of the PGA Championship.
Stay here for live updates and analysis as Tiger chases that elusive major win in the year's final major.
Woods finishes what should be a disappointing PGA Championship where he had the share of the lead after 36 holes and unraveled on round 3.
Today he had seven putts that missed by inches or to the edge of the cup. That wouldn't have given him the championship but could have given McIlroy something to think about down the stretch.
He will have to look back and see his problems with the distance control which has been key during this stretch. His putting would benefit from getting better looks at birdies.
Another year gone without a major for him but down the road he has the lead at the FedEx Cup and the Ryder Cup to play so there is still plenty to play for.
Thanks for being with me during this ride, hopefully we can do it again soon and cover Woods on his quest to climb the all-time wins list.

Hole 18 | Par-4 | 493 yards
-----------------------------------------
Woods hit a massive tee shot down the left side of the fairway that went over 325 yards!
He had only 135 to go to the hole and he sticks the approach shot on the green just above the hole and will have a 10-footer to close his final round with a birdie.

Hole 17 | Par-3 | 233 yards
-----------------------------------------
Woods makes par.
His 55-foot putt from off the green was to the left of the hole from the start. He missed it past the hole by two feet.
He made the comeback putt for par. One more hole to go!

Hole 17 | Par-3 | 233 yards

With the pin location to the right side of the hole bringing the water hazard into play, Woods decided to go the safe route and hit it safely on the left side of the green.
He will have about 50 feet to go for his birdie putt.

Hole 16 | Par-5 | 581 yards
-----------------------------------------
Woods makes bogey!
Second bogey on a par-five on this back-nine for Woods! He missed the par-putt from the start, it wasn't a good stroked putt and missed badly.
He settled for bogey and now goes to the toughest hole on the course.

Hole 16 | Par-5 | 581 yards
-----------------------------------------
Trouble for Woods. The ball was actually on the high tall grass and he just couldn't play the ball from where it was so he had to take a penalty shot.
He layed up with his third shot was left with about 90 yards to the hole.
His fourth shot was over the hole but about 10-15 feet from the hole so he will get a shot at a par-saving putt.
Hole 16 | Par-5 | 581 yards
-----------------------------------------
This is the easiest hole on the golf course. There have been only two bogeys today on the hole.
This hole requires the players to carry the tee shot over a pond to reach a terraced fairway that is higher to the right side.
The safe shot is to the center of the fairway as a long shallow waste bunker guards the second shot to the right, with another waste bunker, this one much deeper, guarding the left side of the green which is perched high on a dune ridge.
Woods finds the grass just to the side of the dune on the left, but it would be foolish for him not to lay up with his second shot.

Hole 15 | Par-4 | 444 yards
-----------------------------------------
Woods makes par.
He missed the birdie-putt by just six-inches! Another putt that comes up short!
Just the way his day has gone!

Hole 15 | Par-4 | 444 yards
-----------------------------------------
His approach on this hole was very similar to the last one. He lands the ball below the hole about 20 feet from the cup.
He will have another decent chance for a birdie.
Hole 15 | Par-4 | 444 yards
-----------------------------------------
This hole often gets overlooked, seemingly a straight forward hole, the tee shot must find the fairway to set up a mid iron into the green running diagonally away from the player to the right.
Oh and by the way there is cacti on the right side rough—just ask Tiger Woods.
Woods learned from the third round and this time hits the ball straight up and down the center of the fairway.
The waste areas are left and back right of this deceivingly small green which is set down into a natural dune area, making it difficult to determine wind speed and direction.
This means Woods must not misjudge the distance and wind which has been his downfall—apart from his putting—thus far.

Hole 14 | Par-3 | 248 yards
-----------------------------------------
Woods makes par.
Woods thought he had this one! Another putt that was tracking the hole and misses to the edge of the cup!
He was already about to start walking and pointing towards the ball but it wasn't meant to happen.
He tapped in for par.

Hole 14 | Par-3 | 248 yards

Woods got the ball trajectory he was looking for here with the right-to-left approach but maybe needed the shot to be a little bit more flatter than what it was.
The ball was on the green but short about 25-30 feet. Woods had that kind of look as if saying "oh no, not again!"
Distance control, seems like we have been seeing this too often with Woods.

Hole 13 | Par-4 | 492 yards
-----------------------------------------
Woods makes par.
He gave it a nice run with his 35-footer for par but the ball broke to the right of the hole about a foot before the hole.
He then made the easy par-putt. Unfortunately for him, pars are not going to get it done.

Hole 13 | Par-4 | 492 yards

Woods tee shot was 253 yards long and had 208 yards to go to the hole with his second shot.
His approach shot was right on the line with the flag but he had an incoming head-wind which caught the ball and stopped it way short of the ball.
The ball is on the green but has about 35-40 feet to go to the hole.
Hole 13 | Par-4 | 492 yards
-----------------------------------------
The 13th hole may be the most difficult hole on the inward nine. The canal on this monster 497 yard par-4 will certainly come into play on the tee shots.
Woods had to decide just how far down the canal he will try to carry it, setting up a demanding approach.
He went with the three-wood and hits a very confident-looking tee shot that gets past Peter Hanson's ball by about 15 yards through the left side of the fairway! Interestingly enough, Hanson used a driver!0
The canal continues down the entire right side of the hole, however, the approach is open to the run up shot, but guarded by two deep waste areas on the left.
Don’t be surprised if Woods' shot misses this green to the left, he has been prone to it on the previous rounds.

Hole 12 | Par-4 | 412 yards
-----------------------------------------
Woods makes par.
Unbelievable! He missed the easy four-foot birdie-putt expecting it to break from right to left and he pushed it past the hole by two feet.
He had to settle for par. He's had five easy missed opportunities today, he could easily be at eight-under-par right now!

Woods took a risk here and it paid off. He chose to ride the wind and started asking the ball to "be good! be good! be good!' and the ball listened!
The ball stops about five feet from the hole and he will have a shot at gaining back the shot he just dropped with the bogey on the 11th hole.
I think that this tweet by Mackenzie R. Cole (@Kenz_Cole) sums Tiger Woods situation:

Woods picks the five-wood for his tee shot here showing he is still going to attack the golf course.
He hits it confidently down the middle of the fairway.

Hole 11 | Par-5 | 593 yards
-----------------------------------------
Woods makes bogey!
First bogey of the day for Woods! He was just flirting with disaster in the past few holes and this was bound to happen.
He missed the 15-feet par-saving putt to the right of the hole and had to settle for the bogey.

Woods could not get the ball to reach the green. He had a great view of the green but his shot was up against the edge of the green and rolled back down the steep hill.
He hits his fourth shot and its shorter than what Woods expected. He leaves it about 15 feet from the hole and will have his work cut out for him to save par.
Hole 11 | Par-5 | 593 yards
-----------------------------------------
Trouble for Woods! He took the decision of going for this green in two and his shot goes way left and into a tall grass area giving him a very tough spot for him to get up-and-down.
If he somehow gets this ball near the hole it will be a miraculous shot!
Very bad decision from him. There was no need for him to force this ball in there, but hey, he is the 14-time major champ!
Hole 11 | Par-5 | 593 yards
-----------------------------------------
Woods unleashes his driver for this tee shot and hits a very confident looking shot that lands right in the middle of the fairway thus avoiding several deep waste areas right of the fairway.
For the second shot, Woods should be wary of getting too close to the green on the lay up as it is better to lay back on the right hand side taking the waste area left out of play.
Decision time for him. A good lay-up will leave a pitch to a relatively flat but exposed and elevated putting surface set high atop a dune ridge and guarded in front by more deep waste.
If he negotiates the tee shot, hit an accurate lay-up avoiding the waste areas lurking left and right and hit an accurate pitch shot, birdie is a definite possibility.

Hole 10 | Par-4 | 447 yards
-----------------------------------------
Woods makes par.
His third shot from then sand was aimed above the hole trying to get the right-to-left break but it goes past the hole by about 10 feet.
Big moment coming up for him, he was six shots from the lead and looks insurmountable, but he doesn't want to give away another shot.
And he didn't, he completed his up-and-down with a very nice looking par-saving putt.
