Virginia DE Will Be First Cavalier Ever Picked No. 1

On April 26th, Chris Long, the All-American Defensive End from the University of Virginia will be the first Cavalier ever to be chosen with the first pick in the NFL Draft.

It's not that the school hasn't had players that weren't worthy in the past, some things just work out this way. Perhaps its name recognition with Long, who is the son of NFL Hall-of-Famer Howie Long, or perhaps its just because he's really worthy.

It's up to Jeff Ireland and the Miami Dolphins at this point, but Long seems to be everything that organization wants in a player. My prediction is that this young man will be a good one, and that Miami will pull the trigger and make history with Long.

Just in case you were wondering, here are the highest chosen Cavaliers since the NFL-AFL merger in 1970...

  1. I agree with you John. I think Parcells will choose Chris Long.

  2. Interesting John - I agree it could very well happen, but I'm still thinking McFadden at this point. He has impressed so much that he would be a hard one to pass over. But I do like Long a lot and think he would be a great choice.

  3. Why in the world would the Dolphins draft McFadden when they have Ronnie Brown?

    1. Character

  4. Ha. Pretty sure you misunderstood that fellows' question John.

IMO, McFadden is the best choice for the Dolphins, b\c he's one of the best talents the draft has seen in years. But hey, that's just my opinion, and it's not feasible.

With that said, I do think there best option is C. Long. Though doesn't Vernon Gholston seem tempting, Dolphin fans?

  5. Parcells will take C-Long if they are stuck with the pick. Nice job.

  6. Miami should take Matt Ryan first overall and get that franchise quarterback that they have needed for so long.

    1. Overrated Matt Ryan? I don't think so. They'd be better off taking C-Long or J-Long and then picking up a QB in the 2nd round at pick 32 who would not require as much money to Ryan. They could be choosing from Brohm, Flacco, and Henne at the top of the second, all of whom I think will be better for the Dolphins than Matt Ryan.
