Knicks and Stephon Marbury Finally Part Ways

Tony ArnoldineCorrespondent IFebruary 24, 2009

The buyout is official and Stephon Marbury will be free to sign with any team after clearing waivers in 48 hours.

Terms of the buyout were not disclosed but it comes just in time for "Starbury" to sign with a contender and still be eligible for the playoffs. The cutoff date for that is March 1st.

The most likely team is the Boston Celtics, as has been rumored for months now. But I wouldn't be shocked if the Spurs or Mavericks made a play for the guard. Even though he hasn't played competitive basketball in over a year, Marbury can score in bunches and came to camp looking to be in great shape.
