Watch Cuban Lazaro Borges' pole snap into three pieces during his first attempt at 5.35 meters—approximately 17.5 feet—in the qualifying round of the pole vault.
Though Borges would fail on his second attempt, he did clear the height on his third try. Borges, the silver medalist at the World Championships in 2011, would later finish one place out of qualifying for Thursday's final when he no-heighted at 5.60 meters in each of his three attempts.
