Baylor Head Coach Scott Drew was named the Coach of the Year for District VII and Junior guard Curtis Jerrells was selected to the All-District VII team by the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA).
Drew led a Baylor team, predicted to finish 9th in the Big XII, to a 4th-place tie. Along the way, they picked up their first national ranking (25th in the AP poll for two weeks in a row) and their first 20-win season in about 20 years (21-9 at the end of the regular season).
Jerrells lead the Baylor team with 14.8 points per game (15.7 ppg in conference play) and his outstanding performancs this season earned him Big XII first team honors this season.
In addition, Junior forward Kevin Rogers, Junior guard Henry Dugat were named All-Big XII honorable mentions and Rogers was named to the Big XII third team by the Associated Press. Freshman guard/forward LaceDarius Dunn was named to the All-Freshmen and the All-Reserve teams by a panel of sportswriters.
For Baylor, this is a great achievement as they continue to rebuild and come back from the ditch they were in just five years ago. Coach Drew and his team deserve to be commended.
