Canadiens-Senators: Beasts of the Northeast Meet Tonight

Joel Dundas@@JRDundasCorrespondent IMarch 13, 2008

The battle for the Northeast division takes place tonight at the Bell Centre in Montreal.

The Montreal Canadiens are coming off a huge 4-0 victory over the New Jersey Devils and looking to extend their grasp on the Northeast division to four points over the Ottawa Senators.

Ottawa, running on a hot goalie in Martin Gerber, are trying to extend their win streak to three, and tie Montreal for the top seed in the Northeast and a share of the conference lead.

The game should be an offensive battle as Ottawa and Montreal are the two highest scoring teams in the NHL. Ottawa currently leads the season series to date with a 4-1 edge in the five games the two teams have played. Ottawa has outscored Montreal 20-11 so far in the season series.

Carey Price and Martin Gerber are expected to get the start for each team, and it appears that Daniel Alfredsson will remained sidelined for the Sens for the fifth straight game due to muscle spasms in his back.
