Derrick Green: 5-Star Running Back Puts Virginia Tech in His Top 6

Joey HollandCorrespondent IIAugust 3, 2012

Good news for Hokie fans.

According to ESPN.com, 5-star running back Derrick Green has narrowed his list of potential schools down to six, and Virginia Tech made the cut. The other five schools are Ole Miss, Auburn, Oregon, Michigan and Tennessee.

Green is considered by Rivals.com to be the top running back in the 2013 recruiting class. Standing in at 6'0" and 220 pounds, he is an excellent power back with solid speed and excellent tackle-breaking ability.

That style of runner has succeeded in Frank Beamer's run-first offense in the past, and it looks like the Hokies have a decent shot at landing this young stud.

Green currently plays at Hermitage High School in Richmond, Virginia, so Virginia Tech is close to home for him.

Keep an eye on Green as he narrows his list down further. He would be an excellent addition to a Virginia Tech offense that has seen huge amounts of recent success running the football.
