Mike Richards Named NHL's First Star of the Week

Say what you want about the Philadelphia Flyers and their inconsistency. Captain Mike Richards is a bonafide star, and has been the most consistent player all year for the Flyers.

On Monday, Feb. 23, the NHL named Mike Richards their first star of the week for this past week, which ended on a disappointing Flyers loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday afternoon.

Mike Richards has been on a tear for the past month.

Since Jan. 16, Richards has recorded 21 points, including a record night against the Buffalo Sabres, when he scored twice and had three assists in the 6-3 win.

Richards set an new NHL record by scoring his third career 3-on-5 goal, sparking a rout of the New York Rangers last Sunday.

Since Jan. 16 Richards has made everyone around him better. Linemate Mike Knuble has enjoyed Richard’s selfless play over the past month, recording ten points of his own.

Richards is on pace for well over 90 points this year. At this point it seems as if the sky is the limit for Richards.
