Podcast of the Week: Lane Kiffin Talks Silas Redd and the Recruiting Process
Every Friday we try to bring you something for you earholes. This week's biggest news has been the Silas Redd move from Penn State to the University of Southern California. We're hitting the mainstream a bit here as head coach Lane Kiffin talks Silas Redd and a little more.
The guys over at Mason and Ireland, from ESPN Los Angeles, had the USC head coach on their program to discuss the entire Silas Redd hullabaloo. Kiffin talks about how he made his big push for the Penn State running back. That push included a presentation, meeting current Trojans players, a private jet and a lot of truly convincing Redd of why USC should be his next move.
When Kiffin talks about Redd, he relates him to his incumbent starter, Curtis McNeal. Both are hard runners, and what Redd brings is another body to work with McNeal, not against him.
Kiffin also gets into the learning curve, something many folks have questions about, with respect to how quickly Redd can transition into the new offense. Running the football is going to be easy; the real issue is going to be Redd understanding the pass-blocking schemes and his role in the passing game as a whole.
In non-Silas Redd news, Lane Kiffin touches on the Devon Kennard injury. The Trojans have a lot of inexperience up front, even though they do have bodies, so the loss of Kennard's experience is going to be a hurdle for them to overcome.
