TNA Impact 08/02/12: What Worked & What Didn't
Welcome Boys and Girls to yet another one of my slideshows after yet another Impact Wrestling. Is James Storm the ringmaster of Aces and Eights? Will Robbie E ever get off the bottom of the BFG ladder? Will Garrett Bischoff ever be good? Will I ever stop asking questions to mask the fact I have nothing write here? Find out some other time.
1) James Storm 52 points (4-1-2) 7 MATCHES
2) Samoa Joe 47 points (5-2) 7 MATCHES
3) Kurt Angle 41 points (5-3) 8 MATCHES
4) Mr. Anderson 40 points (5-4-1) 10 MATCHES
5) Jeff Hardy 28 points (4-3) 7 MATCHES
Rob Van Dam 28 points (4-2) 6 MATCHES
7) Christopher Daniels 26 points (4-3) 7 MATCHES
8) Magnus 21 points (3-5) 8 MATCHES
Bully Ray 21 points (3-3) 6 MATCHES
10) AJ Styles 16 points (2-2-1) 5 MATCHES
11) The Pope 7 points (1-4) 5 MATCHES
12) Robbie E 5 points (1-8) 9 MATCHES
Bobby Roode/Zema Ion vs. Austin Aries/Kenny King - Great tag match with some old school heel tactics from Bobby Roode. Zema was always going to be the odd man out talent wise but the gap wasn't as big as I expected it to be. Aries and King have fantastic chemistry (as expected) and they had some really simple but beautifully executed tag maneuvers. The fact that this match beat out the recap of last week added to the "unexpected" factor of the opening brawl.
James Storm/Sting/Kurt Angle Promo - Kurt rarely delivers good promos but he did here (despite some really flawed logic) while Storm and Sting were their usual charismatic selves. Sting only let the "insane" persona slip out at the end which is good because that can be trying if done too much.
BFG Series Match: Bully Ray vs. Robbie E - Basically a squash match that gives Ray some much needed momentum in the series (don't complain anyone that's why Robbie E is in the BFG). Robbie T getting the cheap shot in was a nice start and I like the Bully Cutter being used more.
Sting/Brooke Hogan Backstage Segment - I liked Brooke's little role this week (she is getting better at the backstage segments) and the she reacted really well to getting the package from Aces and Eights.
Chavo Guerrero vs. Kid Kash - Some people were wondering whether Chavo would return in good health but he showed up in fine form and put on a nice teaser match with Kid Kash. Expect them to have a good feud and help get Gunner and Hernandez back on TV.
Joseph Park/Sting Backstage Segment - I have really taken a shine to the Joseph Park character, he does all the little body language things you would expect a lawyer (or politician) to do and I am curious to see whether his representing talent thing goes anywhere.
BFG Series Match: Kurt Angle vs. James Storm - Kurt Angle has been the underrated star of the BFG series so far as he has had fantastic match after fantastic match all series. The whole match had a lumberjack feel because of the wrestlers around the ring. The lack of Aces & Eights is actually more interesting than if they had showed up, expect the group to make a big splash next week or at Hardcore Justice. Don't be surprised either if they take out Devon (he is in the middle of contract negotiations and may get cut).
Knockouts Number One Contender Match: Tara vs Mickie James vs Gail Kim vs Madison Rayne - This was a big spot fest with lots of little mistakes that I could have forgiven if the ending wasn't so bad. The Hebner/Rayne angle was doing alright until the ending (that was so obviously stolen from last week) happened.
Claire's Baby Shower - I don't like Weddings, Baby Showers or Birthday Parties in a wrestling ring, I just don't. Daniels and Kaz tried hard to save it but the moment Clair talked my decision was made.
-Welcome to Impact! Wait are their people already fighting? Isn't their supposed to be one of those annoying recaps first?
-Double Team Aeroplane Spin? I have never seen that before but expect someone to copy it.
-I'd say that King and Aries should be tag team champions, but that would distract from the singles they have (or are going to have).
-I like TNA having little important tweets from Dixie in the bottom corner of the screen. Some may say it distracts from matches but for people who don't give a rats a** about twitter (yours truly) it's nice to see some gaps filled.
-King's laces are undone.
-So now we get the recap of last week.
-I love hearing Sting's entrance music, brings out the little kid in me.
-Kurt Angle may have said the stupidest thing I have ever heard: "Just as I was coming to the ring for our match Aces & Eights jump me, who benefits from that James? You. During your match with AJ Aces & Eights appear again but leave you untouched. Who benefits from that? You Do". Someone needs to explain to Angle that the BFG series works on a points system and Storm got zero points from both matches.
-AJ Styles with my favorite football player Brent "Boomer" Harvey, and is apparently a North Melbourne fan. He has good taste.
-Quote of the night: "I'm sure AJ is in Australia throwing his shrimp in a barbie" (paraphrasing) Kaz.
-I love Daniels scarf and glasses thing.
-How good do those BFG matches for Hardcore Justice sound?
-Christy Hemme needs her mic checked.
-Bully Ray is on the "twitta machine" again.
-"Bully Ray Stole My Lunch Money" that may be the best sign I have seen in a while.
-How the hell does 5'4" Miss Tessmacher make her legs look a mile long? Wait I don't care I'll just enjoy.
-Shouldn't Herb get taken off the Knockouts matches? Maybe he has them written into his contract.
-Really? Are we really just going to get the same knockouts finish as last week? The only difference was that Tara never had her shoulder down.
-That woman was Chavo's Grandmother!? She looks good for her age (which has to be at least mid seventies).
-Wait, Dixie Carter doubts AJ as well? That is interesting.
-GUNNER IS GETTING SHOEHORNED IN EVERY WEEK!!!
-Wes Briscoe backstage? Wasn't he meant to be a member of Aces and Eights? I know he was a favorite.
-A Baby Shower? Dear god it's going to take a miracle to save this one.
-Bully Ray is staring down Devon at ringside.
-No Aces & Eights? Raising the tension a little, interesting.
