The 2013 Bridgestone Winter Classic will be a historic day for the event. Two of the most storied franchises in NHL history square off as the Detroit Red Wings battle longtime rival the Toronto Maple Leafs at Michigan Stadium.

Thursday, nine more players etched their names into what is sure to be one of the greatest events in hockey history in the Winter Classic alumni game at Comerica Park.

Among the nine are three of the Red Wings’ storied “Russian Five.” The “Russian Five” included Vyacheslav Fetisov, Igor Larionov, Sergei Fedorov, Vladimir Konstantinov and Vyacheslav Kozlov.

Fetisov, Larionov and Fedorov will be participating in the classic. Konstantinov won’t be playing but expects to make an appearance.

The “Russian Five” won two Stanley Cups in Detroit (1997 and 1998).

Not to be outdone, the Toronto Maple Leafs notably added Russ Courtnall, Gary Leeman and All-Stars Vincent Damphousse and Dave Ellett.

Bill Derlago and Bob McGill round out the Maple Leafs additions.

These six Maple Leafs own a collective 3,471 points and 5,463 career NHL games.

This adds another great chapter to two historic Winter Classic rosters.

The initial announcement of the rosters featured some of the greatest players to ever play for their respective teams.

The Red Wings’ roster even included the return of one of their most memorable combinations, the “grind line.” The line consisted of Kris Draper, Kirk Maltby, Darren McCarty and Joey Kocur.
