Mats Sundin scored the shootout winner in his return to the city where he starred for 13 years, giving the Vancouver Canucks a 3-2 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Hockey Day In Canada.

Sami Salo and Alex Burrows scored for the Canucks; Jason Blake and Matt Stajan scored for Toronto.

Sundin's winner was in the third round of the shootout against Vesa Toskala.

Sundin was named the first star and received a long ovation when he came back out and took a bow to the crowd.

Some Leafs fans booed Sundin in his first game at the arena as a visiting player. He received a long standing ovation after a video tribute was played on the scoreboard at the start of the game.

The Canucks were trailing 2-1 as they went to the dressing room after the second period. The former Maple Leaf captain gave the night a storybook ending by getting the winning goal for Vancouver.
