La Velle reported this morning that Joe Crede is officially headed to Fort Myers, Florida. The two sides have agreed to a contract, that virtually nobody could have seen coming a week ago.
The Twins will sign Crede to one-year deal with a base salary of $2.5 million with the chance to earn $7 million in appearance bonuses. The bonuses begin once Crede reaches 250 plate appearances and tops out at $7 million when he makes his 525th plate appearance.
The deal is unbelievable after Crede was seeking $7 million as a base salary and up to a total of $11 million after incentives only a week ago. Crede will still have the chance to earn a solid deal, almost $10 million, if he stays healthy and produces.
The deal will officially be announced by the team this afternoon, and Crede would then likely take the field tomorrow. There is still no update on Juan Cruz at this point, but that move would be simply icing on the cake.
