When the Minnesota Twins agreed to a deal with Joe Crede late last night, it seemed as if the writing was on the door for Matt Macri. The Twins would need to clear a spot on the 40-man roster, and Macri was the obvious guy.
Today the Twins officially announced the deal with Crede, and to the surprise of many, Macri has remained a Twin. Instead, Pat Neshek has been sent to the 60-day disabled list, which effectively keeps Macri in the organization—for now at least.
There is still a chance he could be lost. If the Twins manage to bring in Juan Cruz, or make some other deal, he might be one of the possible options to send through waivers.
A quick update on the contract details of Crede. He will receive up to $7 million, not $7 million more in incentives.
