There was a period of time, not a very long one, when Kelly Pavlik was praised and loved by a huge number of boxing fans. He was thought of as a real champion (which I think he was), and the new up and comer of boxing. He was the young hope who can rack up the wins and become a solid and clear cut champion. That was all good and pure, until this other guy came and executed his boxing name. Who was that guy? I guess we will just call him the Executioner.
So, after a much older X fighter was able to school Pavlik, and put an L on his record, Pavlik dropped out of the hope column. But still, there are always ways to climb back up if you are young and capable. And personally, I think that Palvik can do it again. He needs to impress us fans, in a couple of his next fights. I don't think that a boring unanimous decision win is going to do it. We need to see action from him - either domination of the whole fight or a knockout.
If he can rack up the wins and do it impressively, then he can definitely get some more huge fights. If you ask me, I would not mind seeing him fight the X fighter again if he can show us that maybe their last fight was a fluke.
This coming fight with Antonio Rubio is going to be interesting to watch. I think it will be full of action. I don’t see it as being too boring. But Pavlik should not lose this fight as a loss would be disastrous to his career. If he loses, it will take too long to come back up, missing his prime for the unimportant fights.
As far as my prediction on this fight, I see Pavlik taking it without any problems. Rubio is not bad at all, but if Pavlik comes in like he did for Jermain Taylor, or even close to that, Rubio will be dropped. Pavlik has great stamina, and is a very consistent fighter. Rubio on the other hand, can take breaks, and that’s when Pavlik will gain some momentum.
