France defended its Olympic medal, holding opponents to a tournament-best average of 22 goals per game.

France's 36-year-old goalkeeper Thierry Omeyer was a stamp throughout the tournament, making ridiculous saves and organizing a defensive line that only became stronger as the tournament went on.

Sweden took silver and Croatia score bronze after a 33-26 decisive win over Hungary. Niclas Ekberg was the tournament's leading scorer, notching 50 goals in eight matches.

Norway also repeated as Olympic champions, defeating Montenegro 26-23. Montenegro was the tournament's surprise, playing in its first Olympiad since becoming an independent nation in 2006.

Katarina Bulatovic led all scorers with 53 goals and teammate Bojana Popovic was second with 46, proving to be a deadly one-two punch that drove this high-scoring Montenegro team.

Spain netted bronze after beating South Korea 31-29 in a very close, competitive match. The South Koreans knocked out Russia in a close quarterfinal match before being bested by Norway.
