Kazakhstan's Ilya Ilyin had perhaps the most dominating performance in the sport, lifting his way to two world records—one in the clean and jerk and the other for overall weight. Ilyin went through each of his lifts effortlessly, ousting a very strong competitor in Russia's Alexandr Ivanov.
Lulu Zhou of China provided the biggest show in women's weightlifting, crowning herself the strongest woman in the world, snatching gold in the +75 kilograms weight class as she out-dueled Russia's Tatiana Kashirina in a night where both competitors broke world records.
