Just a day before Chelsea takes to the pitch at PPL Park in Chester, Pennsylvania against the MLS All-Stars, four English Premier League clubs took on MLS clubs in preseason friendlies.

In the four matches against MLS clubs on Tuesday, four EPL clubs failed to win a match in regulation.

The first EPL club to suffer defeat on the night were Stoke City, who fell 2-1 to Columbus Crew.

The Potters went up early in the match. as Jon Walters scored in the 23rd minute, but Tony Pulis' men could not muster another goal against the sixth placed team in MLS' Eastern Conference.

Columbus scored their two goals in the second half by way of Aaron Horton and Ben Speas.

Horton's goal came off an assist from Emilio Renteria in the 71st minute while Speas, who has not yet played in a MLS game, netted the winner in the 87th minute.

The next EPL victim of the night was Swansea City, who lost to Colorado Rapids by the same scoreline.

In Michael Laudrup's first game as manager, the Swans gave up two early goals to their hosts.

Goals from Andre Akpan in the third minute and Kamani Hill in the 14th minute gave the home side the lead and they would never relinquish it.

However, Swansea did not get shutout on the night as new signing Jonathan de Guzman scored in the 79th minute.

Out on the west coast, Aston Villa and Tottenham did not have any good luck either.

Tottenham played in the marquee match of the night, which saw them face the Los Angeles Galaxy.

The Galaxy were without stars like David Beckham and Landon Donovan, but former Spurs player Robbie Keane was in the starting lineup for the hosts.

In the match at the Home Depot Center, Spurs could only manage a 1-1 draw against one of MLS' top clubs.

Gareth Bale was the goal scorer for Spurs in the 17th minute as he delivered off of a cross from new signing Gylfi Sigurdsson.

The Galaxy responded just 12 minutes later with a goal from David Junior Lopez.

After a massive amount of substitutions in the second half, neither club could find the back of the net and the match ended in a draw.

The only EPL club that was somewhat successful on the night was Aston Villa.

The Villains, under the direction of new manager Paul Lambert, visited Jeld-Wen Field in Portland to face the Portland Timbers.

Villa and Portland played in the most exciting match of the night which ended 2-2 but was won by Villa in a penalty shootout, 5-4.

Ciaran Clark scored the first goal of the match for Villa in the 42nd minute and the club took a one goal lead into halftime.

There was not another goal in the match until the 76th minute when Sebastian Rincon scored for the Timbers.

After Rincon's goal, two goals came in quickly as Villa's Matthew Lowton scored in the 80th minute and just one minute later, Portland's Rodney Wallace scored the Timbers' second equalizer.

The match reached a penalty shootout in which Samir Carruthers scored the winning goal for the Villains.

Next up for the clubs will more friendlies but only Aston Villa are done with their American tour, the other three clubs still have matches ahead in the next week with MLS clubs.
