At the conclusion of the momentous 1000th episode of RAW, the Universe witnessed an unexpected turn of events.

With the WWE Championship on the line, CM Punk and John Cena battled it out to determine just who the best in the world truly was.

Late in the match as Punk goes for the GTS, Cena slides out and accidentally shoves the champ into the referee, causing the referee to tumble onto the outside floor.

Cena drills Punk with the AA and goes for the pin, but no referee!

Big Show makes his way to the ring and takes Cena down with a devastating spear. As Punk recovers, he watches as Show continues to decimate Cena. Show flattens Cena with the KO Punch and leaves as a seemingly conflicted Punk revives the referee and brings him back inside the ring. Punk goes for the pin, but Cena kicks out at 2!

Suddenly, Cena locks in the STF and just as Punk is about to tap, Show re-enters the ring and proceeds to attack Cena again. Punk, expressionless, looks on and does absolutely nothing as the crowd starts to let him hear it.

The Rock’s music hits and the Great One charges down to the ring to confront Big Show. The Rock and Big Show go at it with the Rock gaining the upper hand and taking down the giant with a spinebuster.

As Rock sets up for the People’s Elbow, CM Punk gets up and strikes the Rock with a clothesline. As the injured Rock struggles to get back to his feet, Punk lifts the People’s Champ on top of his shoulders and drills him the GTS.

With boos flooding throughout the arena, Punk grabs his WWE Championship and gingerly walks back up the ramp. He pauses, looks back at the fallen Rock and Cena and proceeds to leave as RAW 1000 goes off the air…

Talk about a heel turn!

With presumably a larger number of viewers watching tonight as opposed to a typical episode of RAW, WWE needed to deliver something big to hook viewers in for RAW 1001 and beyond, and they succeeded in doing so.

CM Punk, who was arguably WWE’s second biggest babyface, has turned his back on the Universe in order to retain his championship gold.

With Summerslam just around the corner as well as the announcement of the Rock returning to the Royal Rumble to compete for the WWE Championship taking place, viewers have more incentives to tune into RAW on a weekly basis.

Perhaps the transition to three-hour RAWs will be a bit easier now that there is a very intriguing story that is about to be told.

How the story unfolds remains to be seen. Will we see Punk vs. Cena at Summerslam? Cena just became the first man to unsuccessfully win the WWE Championship when cashing in the MITB. How will he react?

Perhaps the new GM AJ will grant Cena a rematch for the title. Also, is it safe to assume that we are in store for a Show/Punk vs. Rock/Cena match down the line? We know Rock vs. Punk is bound to happen, but when? Royal Rumble or WrestleMania? The possibilities are endless!

Let me hear your thoughts on this sudden heel turn. Was it too soon? Do you think CM Punk has sold out? Leave a comment below and thanks for reading!
