North Carolina Tar Heels to Retire Hansbrough’s Jersey

In case you didn’t know Tyler Hansbrough is kind of a big deal at North Carolina.

The junior forward for the Tar Heels was just honored by the Sporting News as National College Basketball Player of the year and will soon be only the eighth Tar Heel to have their number retired and raised to the rafters.

Yup, Hansbrough is joining such Tar Heels and NBA heavyweights as Michael Jordan and James Worthy - not bad don’t you say?

Hansbrough, who wears No. 50, was humbled by the honor.

“It truly is something special to have accomplished, in fact, it’s kind of hard to sit here and talk about how it feels to be put in the same category as the players who are up there already," he said.

Hansbrough was also named the ACC player of the year after scoring 23.1 points and 10.5 rebounds per game this college basketball season. Right now myMockDrafts.com has Hansbrough being drafted with the 26th overall pick in their 2008 Mock NBA Draft.
