FC Barcelona: Could Barca Go Down as the Greatest Squad Ever?
GEPA/US PRESSWIRE
FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona is going to start its 2012-2013 season with La Liga and the UEFA Champions League. La Blaugrana has a new coach and underwent some changes such as the departure of Keita.

Is there a possibility of Barca going down as the greatest squad in Europe and the world? The answer is a resounding yes for the following reasons.

Lionel Messi

While not marginalizing the achievements of other Barca players, Leo Messi is one of the greatest personalities in the history of the club. The records that Messi set during the 2011-2012 season for scoring goals is a story destined to be remembered in decades to come.

Who could not forget the five goals he scored during the UEFA Champions League match between FC Barcelona and Bayer Leverkusen on March 7, 2012? Messi made history with these goals and gave Barca a massive win over Bayer Leverkusen at Camp Nou.

Messi also broke the scoring record of Cesar Rodriguez during the match between La Blaugrana against Granada on March 20, 2012. The scoring exploits of Messi was evident in other events such as the Copa Del Rey final between Barca and Athletic Club Bilbao.

Other Team Members

Messi was not the only reason La Blaugrana will go down in history as the greatest squad. The other reasons are: Cesc Fabregas, Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquets, Javier Mascherano, Gerard Pique, Carles Puyol, and many more.

Pep Guardiola set the tone for FC Barcelona during his period as coach from 2008 to 2012. According to the FC Barcelona website, Guardiola put an end to the lack of silverware during the previous two seasons of 2006 and 2007.

Guardiola managed to use the 4-3-3 formation with the attack and maintain possession mode for Barca. The result was victories in the UEFA Champions League, Spanish Super Cup, Copa Del Rey, and the World Club Cup.

One of the historical moments during the Guardiola era was Messi winning the Ballon D'Or three times in a row. It is expected that Tito Villanova will continue the same strategy that Guardiola started.

The Internal Factor and Sense of Family

While great coaches and players are essential in the formation of the greatest squad, the concept has to come from inside of the people involved. The sense of family within the squad and its supporters is also essential.

The motto of FC Barcelona is "Mas Que Un Club" or "More Than A Club". The motto is a way of life in La Blaugrana with the team and coach cooperating.

It is also present in the charity work done by members of FC Barcelona. The sense of team and family is also present (according to the FC Barcelona YouTube site) in its employees. It is appreciated in the FC Barcelona Supporters Clubs in Miami, Florida during every FC Barcelona match.

I know because of my membership with the club and the sense of family forged with other members. We celebrate with joy with a victory and feel pain when there is a loss.

Conclusion

The reasons for La Blaugrana going down as the greatest squad is too numerous to state. While Lionel Messi, Pep Guardiola, and Tito Villanova are the few that are mentioned, FC Barcelona does not depend on them.

It is for this last reason that Barca will go down as the greatest squad in history.
