Miguel Cotto Is Fighting Michael Who?

Whether Miguel Cotto was at a handicap last July against Antonio Margarito doesn't take away from the fact that he still ranks among the best welterweights in the world. Cotto already beat the man newly recognized as the best welterweight in the world (Shane Mosley).
Whoever made this match against Michael Jennings, a little known prospect out of the UK, must have forgot how dominant a figure  Cotto was at 147 before a loss to Margarito (legitimate or not).
But the situation here is to find out how much Cotto has left, because plastered hands or not, Margarito ended up giving Cotto a terrible beating, one which can have a toll on a fighter for the rest of their career.
This fight is extremely important to Cotto's confidence and pride, especially since it takes place in Madison Square Garden, which usually draws tons of Puerto Ricans when Cotto fights.
However, the knockout defeat to Margarito might have left Cotto questioning his own ability even with the news of Margarito's plastered hands spreading, because Cotto ran out of gas and allowed Margarito to take over the fight.
The best Cotto can do on Saturday is to put on a show in front of his Puerto Rican fans and take it from there.
Although he was knocked out in July, it was a positive to hear about his eagerness to get back in the ring as soon as possible, even with ideas of a Margarito rematch in his mind (of course before Margarito's knockout loss to Shane Mosley).
And if Cotto wins, a Mosley rematch takes on greater significance. There are so many logical steps in rebuilding Cotto's career, taking on Michael Jennings isn't one of them.
